Next Sunday if we are still not together

April 12, 2020

WBChurch and Friends,

After today’s experience with the bandwidth demand through Zoom, we will do Zoom only from 10 to 10:30 next week, then the service will broadcast only on our website and YouTube.

Zoom can’t handle the bandwidth on Sunday mornings, even though Wed. nights seem fine.

WBChurch Announcements from Easter Sunday

April 12, 2020

Hi all,

Here are the announcements from today.

  • All public gatherings are still postponed, no projected date set for return yet, we’ll keep you posted
  • From this point forward please mute your microphone and video, the remaining portion of the service is being streamed to YouTube and the website
  • The rest of the service can still be watched in Zoom, or if you prefer on the church’s "Listen Page" or YouTube channel (link’s were in this morning’s email)
  • If you want Facebook friends to see the service, share the YouTube link from Pastor’s email this morning in your FaceBook thread
  • So far, no public use of the church building. We continue to keep in contact with the authorities in case it is needed.
  • Face-shields –
  • over 160 have been made,
  • 50 went to Virtua,
  • Cooper Hosp. got an influx of patients from N. Jersey, they were using welding masks as shields, they got 10 and the nurses had tears in their eyes, they asked for 100 more
  • We have more materials on hand with 4 households helping make them. If you would like to help email the church for more details

Phase 2 Construction: The contractor is checking with the Twp. to see if his company meets the minimum standards for continuing to work during this lock-down. They are in the closing stages in their current job, our permits have been filed, and we are waiting on the Twp. for the permits and approval to move forward. All is on hold until both come through. God is in control. Reminder: offering checks sent to church remain un-opened except by the Treasurer and Financial secretary. Note: it might take longer for them to clear you account due to the timing of mail vs. deposit, so please give that extra time consideration. You can still give through the church app or on the "Donate" page on the church website. Remember, those digital transactions are SSL secured, just like any other online commerce you participate in. Thank you all for your patience during this time of separation and your prayers. Continue to reach out to each other and pray this all ends soonPastor

Prayer request

April 8, 2020

WBChurch and praying friends,

Some of you may know Bill Smith and his sisters who attend WBChurch regularly. Their mom, Ruby, used to attend with them when she was still physically able.

I just received word that Ruby has been freed from the challenge of this life and brought home and into rest in the arms of her Savior.

Would you please pray for Bill, his sisters, and the family as they say their final good-byes to their mom this Saturday at 11 at Kelley Funeral Home in Pitman? Any loss of a loved one is difficult to navigate, but this present time in our current isolation, makes this loss and healing from it that much more acute.

Thank you in advance for your prayers.

Stuck in the house? Need something worth seeing from the car?

April 3, 2020

WBChurch and friends,

We received a heads up about the tulip festival is Swedesboro, NJ turning into drive through.

See the link below.

Pastor

Hi All,
A friend of mine told me about this farm in Swedesboro (NJ) that has made their annual tulip festival a drive through event. She said it was great and safe because everyone stays in their own car. 🙂
Thought you all might be interested.

Warning from FBI about our online community platform, Zoom

April 1, 2020

WBChurch,

This issue was brought to my attention by one of our members. I am grateful that you are all keeping your eyes and ears open as we navigate this difficult time.

Rest assured, moving forward we will implement the following recommended guidelines from the FBI in order to keep our online communities a safe place to connect.

Thank you all…missing you all…looking forward to our "reunion" when this is all over.

This gives great tips on how to prevent Zoom sessions (should you decide to use them) from being hijacked by someone wanting to infiltrate it for nefarious purposes. This is worth the warning and has practical steps in how to prevent it.

From the FBI in Boston:

March 30, 2020

FBI Warns of Teleconferencing and Online Classroom Hijacking During COVID-19 Pandemic

As large numbers of people turn to video-teleconferencing (VTC) platforms to stay connected in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, reports of VTC hijacking (also called “Zoom-bombing”) are emerging nationwide. The FBI has received multiple reports of conferences being disrupted by pornographic and/or hate images and threatening language.

Within the FBI Boston Division’s area of responsibility (AOR), which includes Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, two schools in Massachusetts reported the following incidents:

  • In late March 2020, a Massachusetts-based high school reported that while a teacher was conducting an online class using the teleconferencing software Zoom, an unidentified individual(s) dialed into the classroom. This individual yelled a profanity and then shouted the teacher’s home address in the middle of instruction.
  • A second Massachusetts-based school reported a Zoom meeting being accessed by an unidentified individual. In this incident, the individual was visible on the video camera and displayed swastika tattoos.

As individuals continue the transition to online lessons and meetings, the FBI recommends exercising due diligence and caution in your cybersecurity efforts. The following steps can be taken to mitigate teleconference hijacking threats:

  • Do not make meetings or classrooms public. In Zoom, there are two options to make a meeting private: require a meeting password or use the waiting room feature and control the admittance of guests.
  • Do not share a link to a teleconference or classroom on an unrestricted publicly available social media post. Provide the link directly to specific people.
• Manage screensharing options. In Zoom, change screensharing to “Host Only.”
  • Ensure users are using the updated version of remote access/meeting applications. In January 2020, Zoom updated their software. In their security update, the teleconference software provider added passwords by default for meetings and disabled the ability to randomly scan for meetings to join.
  • Lastly, ensure that your organization’s telework policy or guide addresses requirements for physical and information security.

If you were a victim of a teleconference hijacking, or any cyber-crime for that matter, report it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov. Additionally, if you receive a specific threat during a teleconference, please report it to us at tips.fbi.gov or call the FBI Boston Division at (857) 386-2000.
